Countdown to Facebook Vanity URLs Begins!

Starting this Saturday at 12:01 AM EDT you will be able to choose a Facebook username which will be reflected in your Facebook vanity URL. You can choose a username for your personal profile and one for each of the Facebook Pages you administer. Currently Facebook assigns you a string of numbers when you create an account. Each user has their own unique numeric user ID that appears in the browser address bar when viewing a profile.

could become your name…

or something that describes your personality…

The new Facebook usernames will give profiles and pages a more personal feel along with increased search results and an easy to remember link. Share your Facebook URL with friends and family so they can quickly access your profile or fan pages. We also see more companies following in the footsteps of Volkswagen and VitaminWater who are using their Facebook fan page URLs in mainstream advertising campaigns.

The username you choose must be at least 5 characters and contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (“.”). Once you choose your username you cannot change it or transfer it later, so think carefully before making the commitment.

Facebook usernames will be available on a first come first serve basis starting after the stroke of midnight Saturday morning. Without knowing for sure, we are expecting some crashing Facebook servers as millions of people try and snag up their desired Facebook username.
